Benefits of Hat

Caps style you up
You may want to wear a baseball cap to hide when you don't feel confident about your appearance. Though, the true charm of caps does not lie in hiding yourself, but the complete opposite - it's about showing yourself! You can easily match a well-designed cap with any kind of outfit. A cap could put your look together and add a great finishing touch. In short, styling becomes more interesting with a cap.

Caps provide you protection
A cap blocks direct sunlight towards the face, including rays that may cause sun-burns, photoageing, or in the worst case even skin cancer through ultraviolet radiation. In wintertime, caps prevent your scalp from getting dry. Caps also regulate the temperature of your head; it keeps you cooler in summer and warmer in winter. So why not wear caps all year long?

Caps save you from bad hair days

It's unavoidable to wake up some days with hair all over the place. Not only does it look awful, it might even ruin your whole day. Though, in a busy morning, a cap can be a life-saver. It covers the mess and provides you a stylish look.

Caps shape your face

Some say "I don't look good in caps". That's completely wrong. Instead, it's all about the size and style of the cap. Once you find your perfect fitting, your new ball cap will highlight certain parts of your face that not even make-up can.

Caps make you look confident

Caps help you draw attention and make you stand out from the crowd. Wearing a cap will complete your look - it's a simple yet great accessory to make you look confident. Whether you prefer to wear it as a sporty accessory or a fashion statement, the cap will make you hold your head up high.

Materials Used for Hats

Hats can be made from a variety of materials, each with different advantages and disadvantages. Here are some common materials:

Cotton: Breathable, soft and comfortable, but can become heavy when wet.

Polyester: Lightweight, quick-drying and durable, but not as breathable as cotton.

Wool: Warm and shape-retaining, but can become heavy when wet and is less suitable for warm weather.

Nylon: Lightweight, water-repellent and quick-drying, but less breathable.

How to Wash a Hat?

Tips on Choosing Hats for Various Occasions

From casual streetwear to a more polished look, this trendy accessory can top off any outfit. Whether you're going monochrome or mixing it up, here's how to make that bucket hat work harder than ever. Pairing bucket hat outfits with a denim jacket and high-waisted jeans creates a chic urban vibe perfect for exploring the city streets or hanging out with friends.

Casual outfit pairings
Pull off the ultimate laid-back vibe by teaming your favorite graphic t-shirt with distressed jeans and a classic bucket hat. Going out on errands or meeting friends? A simple black bucket hat adds sun protection without sacrificing style—because let's face it, comfort is king when you're keeping it chill.

Dressing up your bucket hat
If smart casual is the aim, pair your color bucket hat with pieces like a sleek trench coat or leather coats to nail that urban edge. But remember: Balance is key—a statement piece needs room to shine so keep the rest of your ensemble understated.

The monochrome effect
Achieve an effortlessly cool aesthetic with an all-black ensemble; think matching set plus matching bucket hats—that's right. The monochromatic approach isn't just sharp; it elongates and flatters every body type while letting textures do the talking.
Remember guys, confidence makes any look click—it's what turns headgear into a fashion statement.

Accessorizing with confidence
It's that moment - you've got your go-to ensemble on and it's time to top off the look with something special. Enter the bucket hat. Not just any old hat, but one bursting with bold colors or daring patterns that scream 'you'. Confidence is key here because let's be honest, a statement piece like this isn't for wallflowers.

Daring patterns that make a statement
When you rock a graphic t-shirt and distressed jeans combo, throw on a patterned bucket hat to take it up a notch. Or if you're running errands in something low-key, make your mark with an accessory style choice that says 'i've got this'. Adjusting your hat's position for personal flair can mean flipping up the front brim or wearing it lower down; each tweak lets people see more of who you are. Think about how street fashion icons do it—they wear bucket hats effortlessly as part of their personal style signature. They show us how versatile accessories really are—whether paired with leather coats for edge or hawaiian shirts for those laid-back vibes. It's not just what you wear; it's how you wear it that counts.

What Hat Style Suits My Face Shape?

Round Face
If you have a lovely round face with a wide forehead and full cheeks with a rounded chin, then you would ideally need to look for a more angular style hat to balance your roundness. You are lucky that you are able to wear asymmetrical shapes with a high crown and peaked or slanted brim. You can accentuate by slanting your hat forward to create attractive angles. Create length to your face by wearing high crowns which will not only give height but will also slim the face. Straight brims add asymmetry. Choose hats with crowns that are at least as wide as your face. The best hats would be: Bakerboy Caps and Medium-Long Brim Fedoras. Hats to avoid would be: Rounded crowns, wide crowns or brims (as they accentuate the roundness). Instead go for height with a pinched crown and avoid low or flat hats.

Oval Face
If you have an oval (egg shaped) face, you are lucky that you have a versatile choice of hats. Your forehead is slightly larger than your jawline. Your face is longer than it is wide and you have a straight line from your slightly wider temple to your narrower jaw with an angled round chin. Ideally, you would want a hat that sits low on your forehead with a wide or flared brim. Hat styles that suit you best are Fedora Hats, Cowboy Hats, Bucket Hats that sit low on the forehead, Newsboy Caps, Fishermen Caps, Boater style with rounded brims. It's best to avoid narrow or flat brims and go for low crowns and wide flared brims.

Oblong Face
Similar to the oval face, again this is a very versatile shape for hats. You have a high forehead and a round chin. Your face has more length than width. The sides of your face go straight down so looking for round shaped hats to counterbalance these straight lines would usually be recommended. Even out the length of your face with low short crowns and flared brims for width and roundness. Sun Hats with low crowns and wide brims are the perfect style as they reduce the length and the roundness of a wide brim, especially if it's a floppy brim. Cloche Hats worn low to the eyebrows helps conceal high foreheads and can create the illusion of a shortened face. Newsboy Caps and Bucket Hats also suit oblong faces with a low crown and wider rounded brim. Ideally, avoid tall crowns which can over-emphasise the length of your face.

Square Face
If you have a square face, you have a lovely angular shape and a strong jawline. You will have a wide forehead and wide cheekbones. The length of your face will be almost equal to the width. As you have an angular face, go for the opposite to soften the angles by going for curves and round hats to provide contrast to your angular jawline. Floppy hats are a good choice as they have a curvy wide brim to counterbalance the angular features. Curvy lines like bowler hats also suit square faces. Round crowns and brims can smooth the angles of a square face by giving height and roundness. Tilting the hat to the side can help break the symmetry and add roundness to your features. Hats to go for would be: Bowler Hats, Pork Pie Hats, Sun Hats, Floppy Hats, Cowboy Hats, Homburg Hats, Cloche Hats. Look for hats which elongate and cushion your facial contours. Hats to avoid would be short brim or no brimmed hats and square hats – go for rounder hats!

Diamond Face
Like a gorgeous diamond, the forehead and chin are narrower and the cheekbones wider. Again, this face shape has angular contours with a tapered chin. Features to go for would be moderate to wide brims and pinched crowns. Again round style hats can counterbalance the angular contours. Round Bowler Hats can give the illusion of a rounder forehead and Trilby Hats have shorter brims with pinched crowns. Moderate brims help reduce the width of the cheekbones whereas wider brims would emphasise the cheekbones more.

Heart Shaped Face
The lovely heart shape face features a broad forehead and wide cheekbones with a pointed chin – the chin being the narrowest part. Choose styles which slim the forehead to make it appear narrower. Balance out the width of your forehead with a medium brim. By slanting the hat to one side, you can slim your face and draw attention to your eyes. Best hats to go for would be medium brim Fedoras, Boaters, Cloche Hats, Homburgs, Beanies and Berets (as they balance out the width of your forehead). Avoid large brims that accentuate your wide forehead.

Triangular/Pear Shaped Face
The versatile triangular shaped face is like the shape of a pear with it's larger jawline and small forehead and small cheekbones. So just like the oval face, there are endless options with this lucky face shape – you can get away with wearing lots of different shapes and styles! Really all you need to do is avoid crowns that are narrower than your cheekbones – which is actually the case with all face shapes. You can bring balance to your shoulder line and have a taller crown to counterbalance your smaller forehead.

How to Properly Store & Organize Your Hat Collection?

Baseball Hats

Baseball hats are one of the more popular hat types. These hats are normally characterized by having a curved bill and branded logo on their front. Baseball caps can either be adjustable or fitted for a particular size head.
Baseball hats are also relatively easy to store and display. If you are looking to display your collection within your home, you can purchase a hat rack or store them in a see-through hatbox. If you are looking to store your baseball caps out of sight, you can easily nest these caps within each other and arrange them in a dresser drawer or under-the-bed container.
For long-term storage, baseball hats should be stored in a protective hatbox. These hat boxes will prevent dust and debris from building up on your collection and damaging your favorite caps. For your most valuable hats, you should purchase archival hat boxes that are acid-free and reinforced with metal edges.

Cowboy Hats

When it comes to storing a cowboy hat, make sure you take the necessary precautions to protect the shape of each brim and crown. When traveling, protect your cowboy hats with a large hat carrier can.
The best hat cans will protect your cowboy hats from bumps, scrapes, dust and moisture. You can also use these hat cans to store cowboy hats within your home if you want to store your collection out-of-sight.
If you are looking to display your favorite cowboy hats, you can do so in several ways. One of the boldest ways to display your hats is by hanging them on a wall. Suddenly, everyone who visits your home knows that much more about you. Talk about a statement piece. However, if you are looking to store your cowboy hat long-term, you should only do so with a hat storage can. Hat cans are a versatile must-have when it comes to storing western hats. They make travel easy, and they are also a way to protect your hat at home when you’re not wearing it, or when you’re storing them long-term in a storage unit.

Large Brim Hats

If you are looking to store other large brim hats, you can follow the tips listed above for storing western hats. Large sun hats, derby hats and other hats with vulnerable brims should always be stored carefully when entering long-term storage. Hat Boxes USA offers several storage options for over-sized hats, while hat cans are almost exclusively made for western hats.
You can easily display large brim hats within your home by using hat hooks, clothespins or a collage-style hat rack.

Fedora Hats

If you have spent a lot of money on your fedora collection, you will certainly want to protect it and keep every hat in pristine condition. To achieve this during long-term storage, you should always keep fedoras in a protective hatbox.
While fedoras should never be stored directly on a surface (the weight and pressure can deform the fedora’s shape), there are still several stylish ways to display your fedoras within your home. Hat stands are a great way to simultaneously display your fedoras and protect them. In addition, fedora owners can also utilize hat racks and other hanging methods to display their fedoras on a wall.

Treating Stains on Straw Hats

Perspiration is the usual culprit when it comes to stains on straw hats. To remove perspiration stains from a hat, wipe the area with a clean, damp white cloth as soon as possible after wearing to prevent body salts and oils from staining the straw.

For stains around the sweatband, use 1/2 teaspoon hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 teaspoon warm water on light-colored straw. For dark straw, use 1/2 teaspoon ammonia and 1/4 cup warm water. Use a soft-bristled brush, like an old toothbrush, dipped in the cleaning solution, and work on a small area, just one to two inches, at a time. Clean, and then blot with a white towel dampened with water. Allow the area to dry completely before wearing again.

For oily stains, sprinkle the stain with cornstarch or talcum powder to absorb the oil. Allow it to stand for a few hours, and then brush or vacuum away.

For sweat stain odors, deodorize the band with baking soda before cleaning the sweat stains with other treatments. Sprinkle baking soda on the hat band and allow to sit for 24 hours. Brush or vacuum baking soda from the band, and then proceed to treat sweat stains with the hydrogen peroxide or ammonia methods to remove sweat stains.

Ultimate FAQ Guide to Hat

Q: What is a floppy hat called?

A: A sun hat (also known as the floppy hat, harvest hat or field hat) is any hat or headgear specifically designed to shade the face, neck and shoulders from direct sunlight, usually with a circumferentially-protruding semi-rigid brim that can range from small to large, but as a general guideline around 4 to 7 in (10 to 18 cm) in width.

Q: What is the most popular type of hat?

A: Baseball hats are currently the most popular style with 51% of regular hat wearers revealing they wear them on a regular basis.

Q: What is a hat without top called?

A: A visor is a crownless hat that simply consists of a visor or brim with a strap that encircles the head. They facilitate fast heat loss from the top of the head, which is necessary for high cardio sports such as tennis, but the drawback is they do not provide sun protection for the crown if the wearer needs that.

Q: What are wide brimmed hats made of?

A: Displaying a tall crown and often made from straw or wool felt, these wide-brimmed hats are usually rolled up at the edges, giving them that distinct cowboy look. Try out the western look with the Lonestar cowboy hat by Justin. Made in Mexico of 100% wool, this authentic western hat is an absolute show stopper.

Q: What material is used for cap brim?

A: It is usually made of plastic and is covered with the same fabric as the cap crown. The brim can be curved, slightly curved or flat, and comes in different shapes. The brim can also be called visor, peak or bill. The panels are the different fabric pieces that are stitched together to build up the crown of the hat.

Q: Which material hat is best?

A: Cotton is appreciated for its softness and ease of care. It offers optimum comfort while remaining weather-resistant. Cotton's breathability is also an undeniable advantage, keeping your head cool on the hottest days. If you're looking for a baseball cap for the colder months, wool is the perfect choice.

Q: What is the difference between a cap and a hat?

A: Both hats and caps fall within the category of headgear and headwear accessories. However, all hats have brims and shaped crowns, whereas a cap is less structured, and doesn't have a brim, but is never without a peak or visor.

Q: What is the best material to make a hat out of?

A: When making summer hats, breathability and lightweight are key factors, so natural materials like cotton and linen are often chosen. When making winter hats, warmth is the primary consideration, so materials with high insulation properties such as wool and down are typically selected.

Q: What is the difference between a bucket hat and a cloche hat?

A: Bucket hats are very similar to cloche hats, the difference is that bucket hats have a square shaped crown while cloche hats have a rounded crown shape for example here. Buckets give my customers so much flexibility for travel too because the fabric can be easily rolled up and easily placed in a travel bag.

Q: How to keep a straw hat from cracking without?

A: To prevent the straw from cracking around the crown, try to always pick up your hat by the brim. The brim is much more flexible than the crown. The crown of Panama hats are usually stiff from blocking and from stiffeners. This makes the straw around the crown more brittle than the brim.

Q: Are straw hats repairable?

A: Braid the straw together over the broken parts or just gently push the edges together, apply a thin coat of glue and let it sit and dry. Pick a glue that is transparent when dry, and a bit flexible (trying it out on a small piece of the hat is always a good idea).

Q: How to revive a straw hat?

A: One of the easiest ways to reshape a straw hat is to use a steamer. All you need to do is place the hat on top of the steamer and let the steam do its work. The steam will help to relax the straw fibers and make it easier to reshape the hat. Another easy way you can reshape a straw hat is to use a hairdryer.

Q: How do you keep a bucket hat brim stiff?

A: To stiffen up your brim, first steam both the top and bottom of your brim, so that your hat is slightly damp. Then, generously spritz your starch spray around the underside of the brim, pressing down on the brim as to flatten it on top of a hard surface.

Q: Can you roll a straw hat?

A: Although Panama hats are flexible and can be rolled without difficulty, they are a beautiful handwoven item and should be treated with care. Avoid folding, scrunching up or mistreating your Panama hat as this will soon cause the straw to crack and damage the weave.

Q: What is the best way to store straw hats?

A: Unless, stored in a special hat box, place it upside down on a flat, clean surface to store your hat. It will prevent brim distortion and flattening. The safest way to store your hats is a hatbox. Check out our hat care accessories to keep it safe and clean, season after season!

Q: How do you keep a straw hat from getting brittle?

A: If you have a steamer, a quick thirty seconds of steam all over the straw will be just right. If you don't have a steamer, place it on your bathroom counter and run the shower hot and let the steam work its' magic that way. No need to overdo it, a good minute or so of steam will do the trick.

Q: Will water ruin a straw hat?

A: Straw hats (made of natural fibers) should NEVER be worn in the rain. A straw hat will not maintain it's shape in wet weather. If you do get caught without an umbrella, once you get indoors always snap your brim up. Next, try to find somewhere to hang your hat so that the sides of the brim are not touching anything.

Q: Why do people wear bucket hats?

A: The modern bucket hat is derived from a tropical hat made from olive drab cotton that was issued to the US Army during the Vietnam War. These lightweight hats became popular among civilians for use in sports such as fishing, and as sun protection.

Q: How do you restore a bucket hat shape?

A: Wetting the hat and reshaping it while it dries can help it regain its original shape. Similarly, hats that have shrunk in size can also be restored with stretching techniques. One such process involves dampening the hat and placing it over a round object, such as a ball or can, to help it expand.

Q: Can I wear my straw hat in the rain?

A: Straw hats (made of natural fibers) should NEVER be worn in the rain. A straw hat will not maintain it's shape in wet weather. If you do get caught without an umbrella, once you get indoors always snap your brim up. Next, try to find somewhere to hang your hat so that the sides of the brim are not touching anything.
